The binding of isaac afterbirth keeper1/14/2024 The only way to counter this is to find Luck up items, force a way to pickup lots of coins to get lucky pennies (like getting swallowed penny/Piggy Bank + a damage source, preferably a blood bank), or duplicate Luck up pills with Blank Card + Jera. You get fewer consumables, fewer gambling payouts, fewer tooth shot/holy shot/explisivo shot/etc. This dramatically increases the difficulty of the character without allowing very much counter to it. Lazarus starts with -1, and everybody else starts with 0 luck (with the exception of Eden, who starts with anywhere from -1 to 1 luck). The biggest part is probably the -2 Luck. He will convert many drops to flies, leading to fewer consumables able to be rerolled again and more difficulty in breaking the game. However, if Keeper does get the D20, it will be that much less effective. With this, at least he gets some benefit to heart drops instead of the Lost, who can do literally nothing with those drops except reroll them if he gets the D20. Once you do start with the Wooden Nickel, it is significantly easier to replenish that health.Ī good part about Keeper's health system is that the heart drops get converted to flies. You have to rely on RNGesus to spawn a coin sometime on the floor or to bomb the donation machine to get your health back. Replenishing his health is difficult before you defeat Isaac in the Cathedral, which lets Keeper start with the Wooden Nickel. This makes Keeper a really shitty version of the Lost, because at least the Lost can fly, has spectral tears, and has not awful speed. The Lost, on the other hand, doesn't have health at all, so he can take as many devil deals as he can find. Sure, you can take one-heart devil deals, but then you are one hit away from death. You cannot take two-heart Devil deals, not even items like the Pact which give soul hearts on pickup. He cannot have more than two coin containers, making health up items as useless for him as they are for the Lost. Get hit again after not picking up a coin and you die, the end, start over. You can't have soul hearts, no protection at all against reducing the DwtD chances besides "git gud". Taking damage also counts as red heart damage, which means DwtD chances are drastically reduced if you get hit even once. Many other characters at least can tank a few hits before they find a half or full heart to replace health lost, or find and pickup soul hearts to protect against taking more damage. Keeper's health system sounds neat in theory, but when you play him, you'll quickly realize just how stupid it is.įirst of all, he can only take two hits before he dies.
